Chicago Shabbos of Chizuk and Annual Reception
Chicago Shabbos shel Mir
The Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon Harav Nachman Levovitz Shlita and Harav Hagaon Rav Yosef Elefant Shlita infused the Chicago community with much chizuk and inspiration during the weekend of Shabbos Parshas Behar-Bechukosai. Rav Nachman struck a chord with the entire age spectrum – from veteran, longtime friends of the Mir to the younger, more recent alumni, who were the initiative behind this amazing visit – all of whom cherished the opportunity to reconnect with a vibrant link to the earlier Roshei Yeshiva and the legendary pre-war Mashgiach, Rav Yerucham Levovitz.
Throughout Shabbos, Rav Elefant visited shuls and mosdos Hatorah across the city. On Friday evening, when he spoke at Kollel Tiferes Yisroel, Rav Yitzchak Simcha spoke warmly about the Mir’s tremendous fortune to have a maggid shiur to whom all of Klal Yisroel looks for guidance. A standing-room-only crowd attended the Friday night Oneg – for married men only – on the topic of “Strengthening the Yesodos HaBayis” which was followed by an intriguing Q&A session.
Every event during the entire weekend, including the Alumni Melave Malka and the Sunday evening community-wide Annual Benefit Reception drew unprecedented crowds, triple the size of that of previous years. Rav Nachman proudly pointed out that this clearly evidenced Chicago’s spiritual metamorphosis as a kehilla that truly appreciates limud Torah and hachzokas Torah, which will iy”H continue to increase in the years to come.
