Mir, Belarus: A delegation from Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim, led by Hagaon Harav Nachman Levovitz, shlita, traveled today to the town of Mir to mark the completion of the newly rebuilt ohel over the kever of his grandfather, the legendary Mashgiach Hagaon Harav Yerucham Halevi Levovitz, zt”l. The restoration was undertaken as the Torah world commemorates the Mashgiach’s ninetieth yahrzeit. The project included the renovation of the matzeivah and the rebuilding of the ohel that once stood above the kever, creating a fitting makom where talmidim and visitors can come to daven and connect with the enduring legacy of the Mashgiach. The project was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Zevi and Dina Wolmark of Los Angeles, in honor of Rav Nachman and as an expression of appreciation for his decades of devotion to the Mir. The visit followed a special tribute presented at the Yeshiva’s recent dinner, where Rav Nachman, an einikel of the Mashgiach and one of the Roshei Yeshiva of Mir, was recognized as a living link to his grandfather’s mesorah. For close to fifty years, Rav Nachman has carried significant responsibility for the Torah and continued growth of the Yeshiva, while helping shoulder the burden of its support. At the new ohel, Rav Nachman and members of the delegation recited Tehillim and tefillos, followed by the first Kaddish in the completed structure. The delegation also visited the historic building of the Mir Yeshiva and davened at the mass grave where 1,592 Jews from Mir were murdered by the Nazis in November 1941. Just over ninety years after the Mashgiach’s petirah, his teachings continue to shape the Mir and generations of bnei Torah throughout the world. His emphasis on shleimus ha’adam, clarity of purpose and bein adam l’chaveiro remains deeply embedded in the Yeshiva’s chinuch and mesorah. The rebuilding of the ohel stands not only as a memorial to the past, but as a place of tefillah and connection for future generations, ensuring that the light of the Mashgiach continues to illuminate Klal Yisrael.
