Camp
The summer’s Yeshiva Camp for the Bnei Chutz Laaretz was located on beautiful grounds in Moshav Nechalim. As the Mashgiach pointed out during his inspiring visit to the Camp, Nachalim stands for נדרים חזרה לימוד ישיבת מיר.
The Camp kicked off on Sunday afternoon with bowling and pizza. That very evening, there was a captivating Q&A session, during which a panel of qualified Meishivim Panel addressed very real issues that Bachurim often face. The limud in Camp, per the Rosh Hayeshiva’s direction, was the topic of Shemona Esrei. The shiurim were given by Harav Yitzchok Caplan shlit”a. Among the inyanim discussed were: What is Tefilla? What is Kavanah? and practical Halachic applications, including common mistakes made during Shemona Esrei and what to do in each case . Another major limud was a Shechita, performed by a former talmid and accompanied by lengthy informative shiur all about the Halachos that pertained to the Kosher lamb that was shechted and enjoyed by all.
Camp was highlighted by a trip to the Kinneret for a day at the Aquakef waterpark; another trip was to a bike trail featuring hybrid electric mountain bikes. On the last full day of camp, Eretz Yisroel’s second largest water slide array arrived for a visit; everyone joined the water tag games and quickly forgot about the extreme heat.
The nights, too, were filled with a variety of amazing activities. The renowned historian, lecturer, and Mir alumnus, Yehuda Geberer, gave a presentation. Shloime Gertner performed at a spectacular concert, giving everyone a truly uplifting and most geshmaker experience as the music pumped until late at night. On the second-to-last night, Rav Aharon Lopiansky visited; he answered twenty-five questions from the Bnei yeshiva, covering almost every significant topic. There was a talent show that allowed each bachur to share his unique abilities and gain chizuk from the applause and appreciation of his chaverim. Some sang, others performed skits, and several artists showed their unique drawing abilities. The winner was selected by three judges from the Camp’s staff.
On the Erev Shabbos of Camp, an insightful Parsha Shiur was delivered by another Mir alumnus, Rav Meir Braunstein, mara d’asra of Agudah of Far Rockaway. Two buses transported the bochurim to the beach in Herzliya; upon their return, they were treated to a hot טועמיה spread of delicious yapchik and potato kugel.
Shabbos was ushered in with a sense of calm. Harav Nachman Levovitz, Harav Binyomin Carlebach, and Rav Moshe Ahron Friedman joined Rav Yehuda Wagschal – who was present during the entire week and gave the drasha at Shalosh Seudos about the true meaning of “Mishpachas Mir”. Rav Nachman and Rav Binyomin presided over Friday night’s Oneg Shabbos.
All of the Shabbos seudos were enhanced by spirited zemiros and delectable food that was even better than the rest of the week. The menu was specifically crafted to please the palate of the American olam. Lunch and supper featured Shawarma, sushi salad, BBQ, lasagna, everything to create a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere in which the bochurim could optimally refresh their kochos for the upcoming z’man.
